I like finding out that these posts are visited. Mainly because this in turn enables me to pay back a visit and discover, well basically new worlds.
So, I’ve followed the breadcrumbs left by someone who came in here and found this cozy corner of the web, with an inviting challenge. Which I’m going to accept, thank you very much!
So: weather. This takes me to Siena, seven years ago, in January.
And in this case, weather means something close to rain. That tiny dripping that you can stand without opening an umbrella, and yet from time to time can change into the real thing, or maybe stop altogether.
This kind of weather, cold and damp, that makes streets slippery, softens colours and light, keeps people indoors, and basically leaves an otherwise crowded place to few waterproof brave tourists.
Who, on the other hand, might be happy to enjoy the melancholic notes of the atmosphere, but are more than willing to follow the smells coming out of restaurant kitchens and end drying up with their feet under a table and some good red in a glass and soup in a bowl, on it.
We had left home with snow on the train tracks, and we were worried that the weather might spoil our weekend. It did’t, in the least. On the contrary, it added intimacy and warmth. You never know…
