The funny thing about timer-operated appliances is that you can catch yourself by surprise through their forgotten programmed start.
So this morning something stubbornly kept beeping in the kitchen. Too early for getting up, late enough for being then unable to fall asleep again.
If you don’t know what it is, just ignore it, that’s my philosophy when I’m in bed.
And my wife’s too, as she was pretending she couldn’t hear (pretending, because later I heard her commenting: “ah this is what it was!”).
But then, the real alarm clock went off and together with it there came a smell in the air that made us all jump out of bed and run to the kitchen for breakfast with a hungry and questioning look on our faces.
Well, it’s a Christmas present by my mother, so we are not used to it yet. That’s why I couldn’t remember I had set the bread machine to bake overnight.
Well, it was a pleasant surprise, anyway.
