Arezzo is maybe one of Tuscany’s best jewels, although, being a bit out of mainstream’s way it’s probably a bit less renown abroad than say Florence, Pisa or Siena.
Being a city lying on a hillside, stairs are often the shortest way from A to B.
It was a rainy July Saturday in Arezzo (hence the B&W), and we tried all the stairs we could. Especially around the Cathedral, built in the highest part of the city.
As the rain started pouring, we moved to another small town nearby, Cortona. Same stairs diffusion, better weather and light (hence the colour).
Apparently the question: which way? associated to a stairway only admits “up”, or “down” as sensible answers. Somehow, though, and this is the impression I brought home from that Tuscanian trip, certain stairs seem to lead back or forward in time.
