Ok, see that mountain? Over 40 million years ago that 1500-metres-above-the-sea-level top was actually not a top at all, but just an expanse lying at the bottom of a sea. The layers that form it come from slow deposits of sand alternating with debris from underwater landslides. Over 40 millions years ago, flat under the sea.
And then Africa decided to start pushing north.
So, how about tilted?
