Last Friday was a Summer day: the temperature, the light, the breeze, without a calendar you wouldn’t have guessed it’s Autumn already.
And yet… if you look closely, there are some small tell-tale signs.
One of them is this tree standing by the corner of our apartment building. It’s a kaki. Well, the scientific name is Diospyros kaki (Wikipedia says) and apparently in the English-speaking world it might be known as Japanese persimmon.
Its fruits are orange, when they are ripe, sweet and soft, but awful and inedible when they are not ready. Actually, I don’t like them even when they are ripe. Anyway, over here they get ripe around November or December.
We’ve been seeing these half-tomato, half-apple-looking fruits hanging from the branches since the beginning of Summer. Green. But now… Yes, Autumn is already here.
Oh, yes, last Friday was a Summer day. Yesterday was a hot and humid overcast day. And today it rained all day and temperatures dropped. So maybe we can write off doubts and get in the right mood for the new season.
