Although I love the Alps, my mountains are the Appennines.
They are more humble, less high and haughty, and instead of dividing the Country from our neighbours, they run along it as if they were its backbone.
Anyway, the evergreens are rare on the Appennines, and that means that Autumn is the season of colours. Warm colours, the Sun’s summer heat and light captured and crystallized in fragile sheets with vivid tones.
And the season of smells too: humid smells, leaves on the ground, mushrooms, soil.
This picture was taken in Alba, a beautiful town in Piedmont, home to wonderful wines and excellent white truffles, during the annual truffle fair. The intensity of smells and tastes matched the saturation of colours.
